SETAᴾᴴᵀ starts the works for the implementation of a reverse osmosis unit, interconnections and necessary adjustments for the water treatment of the Duque de Caixas (Reduc) – Petrobras refinery, located in the municipality of Duque de Caxias, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Duque de Caxias refinery, which started operating in 1961, is one of the largest in Brazil in terms of installed oil refining capacity. Today, it has become a major player in the country, accounting for 80% of lubricant production and the largest processing of natural gas.

In its quest to modernise, continue to consolidate its position as an important asset and maintain its firm commitment to rationalising the consumption of resources, it will implement a new water treatment solution in the coming months.

Specifically, it is a reuse system, using treated effluents and, for the treatment of these, a reverse osmosis desalination unit for the tertiary treatment of effluents with a view to a 70% recovery rate. SETAᴾᴴᵀ will be in charge of supplying the technological package for this purpose.

Thus, the company’s scope in this project includes the design, manufacture and commissioning of a reverse osmosis system for the reduction of effluent salinity with a treatment capacity of 15,000 m3/day. In addition, the service includes the corresponding tests and inspections of the unit at the SETAᴾᴴᵀ facilities prior to its transfer to the Duque de Caixas refinery, where SETAᴾᴴᵀ technical personnel are expected to travel to start it up.

Large petrochemical companies such as CEPSA and REPSOL have already placed their trust in SETAᴾᴴᵀ as a technological partner for their water treatment and purification processes, and now PETROBRAS has joined them with the recent award of this important project.
